This article addresses common errors encountered during the activation, management, and removal of Ranorex licenses.
Node-locked license errors
Authentication error
If your machine cannot connect to the authentication server during installation, an "Authentication Error" message appears.
- Manual authentication: Click Yes in the error dialog to save the license file locally. Email this file to support@ranorex.com with the subject "License file authentication." Ranorex authenticates the file and returns it for manual installation.
- Offline installation: Click No to skip automatic authentication and follow the "Install without internet connection" workflow.
For more information, see Install a Node-Locked License.
Floating license issues
Not connected to Ranorex License Manager
The Ranorex License Manager displays this error if the underlying Windows service stops. This often occurs because antivirus programs flag the service as a false positive.
- Restart the service: Open the Windows Task Manager, navigate to the Services tab, and restart the RanorexLicenseService.
- Reinstall: If the service fails to restart, reinstall the Ranorex License Manager.
If the problem persists, contact support@ranorex.com.
Uninstall and transfer issues
Before uninstalling Subscription License Manager
During the Subscription License Manager installation, a specific user account is configured as the service user.
Before uninstalling the Subscription License Manager, confirm that the service user password is still the same password used during installation.
If the password was changed, complete the following steps before uninstalling:
- Reset the user account password to the original password used during the Subscription License Manager installation.
- Run the uninstall process again.
Server connection failure during uninstall
If the machine cannot reach the authentication server while you attempt to remove a license, the process fails and an error message appears.
Solution: Create a support request.
- Use a machine with internet access to open the support query form.
- Paste the license information (automatically copied to your clipboard) into the form.
- Request a manual deregistration.
- Wait for a confirmation email from Ranorex Support before attempting to reuse the license on a new machine
