This article describes how to remove and move node-locked and floating licenses.
Uninstall a license
The steps to uninstall a license depend on the type of license you previously installed.
Node-locked license
To uninstall a node-locked license, follow these instructions:
- Start Ranorex Studio as an administrator.
- Go to Help > Licensing…. The license configuration dialog opens.
- Select Uninstall license.
- Select Yes.
Ranorex Studio automatically removes the license from the Ranorex License Authentication Server and the configuration dialog.
Floating license
You can remove a floating license configuration from Ranorex Studio or uninstall a floating license from Ranorex License Manager on your license server.
Remove a Floating License Configuration from Ranorex Studio
Use this option to remove the current floating license configuration from the local machine.
To remove a floating license configuration from Ranorex Studio:
- Start Ranorex Studio as an administrator.
- Go to Help > Licensing....
- In the Licensing dialog, select Remove Configuration to proceed with removing the current license setup.
- A confirmation dialog appears, indicating the successful removal of the licensing configuration.
- Select OK to continue.
Uninstall a Floating License from Ranorex License Manager
Use this option to remove a floating license from the license server.
To uninstall a floating license from Ranorex License Manager:
- Start Ranorex License Manager on your server.
- In the context menu of the license(s) you want to uninstall, select Uninstall license(s).
- Select Yes.
The license is deleted from the License Manager.
Before Uninstalling Subscription License Manager
This information applies only to Subscription License Manager installations.
During the Subscription License Manager installation, a specific user account is configured as the service user.
Do not change the password for this user account after installation. If the password changes, the Subscription License Manager service may stop working correctly, and the uninstall process may fail with an error.
If the password was changed, do the following before uninstalling the Subscription License Manager:
- Reset the user account password to the original password used during the Subscription License Manager installation.
- Run the uninstall process again.
Transfer a license
Transferring a license moves an installation from one machine to another. This requires uninstalling the license on the source machine and then installing it on the target machine.
Node-locked license
Ensure you are outside the lock period before proceeding.
- Uninstall the license from the source machine: Follow the Node-locked license uninstallation steps. If the machine cannot connect to the Ranorex License Authentication Server, follow the steps in Licensing Issues.
- Install the license on the target machine: Refer to Install a Node-Locked License. Use the Install with internet connection or Install without internet connection sections as needed.
Floating license yourself
Ensure you are outside the lock period before proceeding.
- Uninstall the license from the source machine: Follow the Floating license uninstallation steps. If the machine cannot connect to the Ranorex License Authentication Server, follow the steps in Licensing Issues.
- Install the license on the target machine: Refer to Install a perpetual floating license. Use the Install with internet connection or Install without internet connection sections as needed.
Transfer within the lock period
If you need to transfer a license within the lock period, you need to contact support with your license information. To do so, follow the workflow below:
- Attempt to uninstall the license. When the confirmation dialog appears, select Yes. An error message appears.
- Read the error message, and select Manual uninstall.
- On a machine with an internet connection, open the support query form.
- Apply for a support ticket using your personal support key and request a manual license transfer.
- Paste the license information (which was copied to the clipboard from the dialog) into the support query form, or attach a screenshot of the dialog window.
- Wait for the confirmation email from Support stating that the license has been successfully uninstalled and deregistered on the Ranorex License Authentication Server before attempting to reuse the license.
