If Ranorex Studio cannot detect or connect to an iOS device, or the device does not appear as a connected endpoint, review the device preparation, iTunes installation, physical connection, and network configuration.
Ranorex Studio does not detect the device over USB
iTunes must be installed on the computer running Ranorex Studio. It provides the drivers required to connect to an iOS device through USB.
To verify the connection:
- Install or open iTunes.
- Connect the iOS device directly to an integrated USB port on the computer.
- Avoid using a USB hub.
- Unlock the iOS device.
- If prompted, confirm that you trust the computer.
- Verify that iTunes recognizes the device.
- Close and restart all Ranorex tools.
- Try adding or connecting the device as an endpoint again.
If iTunes does not recognize the device, resolve the connection or driver problem before attempting to connect through Ranorex Studio.
For complete connection instructions, see Connect your iOS Device.
The device cannot connect over Wi-Fi
When using Wi-Fi, the iOS device and the computer running Ranorex Studio must be connected to the same network and able to communicate with each other.
Verify that:
- The device and computer are connected to the same network.
- TCP port
31000is allowed on the computer running Ranorex Studio. - UDP port
31000is allowed on the computer running Ranorex Studio. - A firewall or network security tool is not blocking communication.
When possible, use a USB connection. USB is generally more reliable and supports installing IPA files and unattended deployment, which are unavailable over Wi-Fi.
The device disconnects during test creation or execution
Power-saving behavior may interrupt the connection while creating or running a test.
To help maintain a stable connection:
- On the iOS device, open Settings > Display & Brightness.
- Set Auto-Lock to Never.
- Keep the device connected to a power source during test creation and execution.
- Reconnect the device and confirm that it appears as connected in the Endpoints pad.
For all required preparation steps, see Prepare your iOS Device.
Ranorex cannot start or stop applications
The Ranorex Service App must be installed on the iOS device to create and run mobile tests.
Verify that:
- The Ranorex Service App is installed on the device.
- The installed app is compatible with your Ranorex Studio version.
- The Ranorex Service App is running.
- The application under test has been correctly instrumented.
You can obtain the required IPA files from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ranorex\Studio\Bin\RxEnv\iOSYou can also download them from the Mobile Downloads page.
For installation instructions, see Install RxServiceApp, RxBrowser, and RxMiniKeePass.
The device is connected but does not appear as an endpoint
If the computer recognizes the device but it does not appear as a connected endpoint:
- Verify that the device preparation steps are complete.
- Confirm that iTunes recognizes the device when using USB.
- Confirm that the Ranorex Service App is installed and running.
- Restart the Ranorex tools and reconnect the device.
- Open the Endpoints pad and try adding the device again.
