Instant Tracking

Instant tracking lets you track UI elements using a keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + Windows key (WIN). This is especially useful when you want to quickly add multiple repository items from Ranorex Studio or Ranorex Spy—without repeatedly clicking Track….

To explain instant tracking, this article uses the Test database tab of the Ranorex Studio Demo Application. The UI element tracked is one of the list items in the Department drop-down menu.

1. Open Ranorex Studio and create a new blank solution (or open an existing one).

2. Start the Demo Application and click the Test database tab.

3. Click the Department drop-down menu to display the list items.

4. Hover over the list item you want to track and keep the mouse pointer on it.
   

5. While hovering, press Ctrl + WIN to track the list item.
   

Result

After you press Ctrl + WIN, the UI element is tracked and added as a repository item. You can repeat the shortcut to track additional elements (for example, more drop-down items) without switching back after each one.

• You can use instant tracking if Ranorex Spy is started or if you have a recording module or repository file opened in Ranorex Studio.
• You can instantly track as many UI elements as you want in one go. You don’t need to switch back to Ranorex Studio or Spy.
